Hero Train Worker Samir Zitouni Shields Passengers from Knife Attack in London | Full Story (2025)

A true hero has emerged from the shadows of a terrifying knife attack on a London-bound train. Samir Zitouni, a 48-year-old train worker, selflessly shielded passengers from a rampaging attacker, risking his own life in the process. This brave act has left him and others with severe injuries, but his family and colleagues stand proud of his courage.

But here's where it gets controversial... Zitouni, known as Sam, has been hailed as a hero by British ministers and his family, but to those who know him best, he's always been a hero. His 20 years of service with the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) have now been marked by this extraordinary act of bravery.

Witnesses describe the train conductor, Zitouni, fearlessly stepping in to protect passengers from the attacker, who was stabbing people seemingly at random. People ran for safety, locking themselves in toilets or the buffet car, but Zitouni stood his ground. He was stabbed as a result, but his actions saved lives.

"The care provided by the hospital and the support from his colleagues at LNER has been incredible," his family said. They expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and kindness shown to Zitouni, who is now recovering from life-threatening wounds.

LNER's managing director, David Horne, praised Zitouni's bravery, saying, "In a moment of crisis, Sam's actions were incredibly courageous. We are so proud of him and all our colleagues who displayed such bravery that evening."

And this is the part most people miss... the train driver, Andrew Johnson, also played a crucial role. He contacted a signaller to divert the train from its high-speed line, ensuring it could be safely brought to a halt at Huntingdon station. Johnson downplayed his own actions, saying, "I think my colleagues on board were the real heroes."

The British Transport Police reported that it took just eight minutes from the first emergency call to the arrest of the suspect, Anthony Williams, a 32-year-old British national. Williams has been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, one of actual bodily harm, and one of possessing a bladed article. He is due back in court on December 1.

The attack left 11 people hospitalized, with most now discharged. Four remain in hospital in a stable condition.
